Press release

Suspended Mies was the title of an exhibition by Bettina Pousttchi at the Arts Club of Chicago in 2017. On that occasion, the artist had developed a site-specific photo installation that responded to the work of architect Mies van der Rohe, who designed the famed “floating staircase” at The Arts Club. The installation was comprised of three parts that brought together Mies’s legacy. A large-scale photograph of the Seagram Building in New York printed on textile, extended the length of the entire west gallery; a second suspended work addressed Mansion House Square, Mies’s unbuilt project for London; the third part was The Arts Club’s own physical space with the staircase.

On 22 August 2021, after a six-year renovation phase, the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, built by Mies van der Rohe, an icon of post-war architecture and one of the most important exhibition houses of Western modernism, will reopen.

Mies in Mind is an exhibition parcours from 20.–22.08.2021 on the occasion of the reopening of the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. For Mies in Mind the large-scale photograph Suspended Seagram will be reinstalled at Buchmann Galerie Berlin.
