The Buchmann Galerie is a contemporary art gallery with a focus on painting and sculpture. Representing international mid-career and established artists creates a context for the gallery programme and an own specificity of the exhibitions in collaboration with the artists.
Founded in Switzerland in 1975, the gallery opened in Germany in 1995; since 2005, the gallery has had two adjacent exhibition spaces located in Berlin.
Being an active part of the Berlin art community, Buchmann Galerie has been among the galleries inviting for the Gallery Weekend Berlin since 2007 and in recent years placed many of the gallery artists in exhibitions and projects at art institutions in Berlin and abroad.
Several of the gallery’s artists have been recognized with prestigious international art prizes; such as, the Turner Prize and the Praemium Imperiale, which has been awarded to three of the gallery’s artists.
Offering a broad range of artists, the Buchmann Galerie has many years’ experience in realizing first-class commissioned projects including large scale sculptures with its artists in public spaces and in the context of interior and corporate spaces, conducting the projects from conception to completion.
Working closely with museums and other public institutions, the gallery has successfully placed works with, for example, M+ in Hong Kong, the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, the Centre Pompidou Paris, the Kunstmuseum Bonn, and the Pinakothek der Moderne Munich.
The Buchmann Galerie is a regular exhibitor at the most prominent international art fairs, including The Armory Show in New York and Art Basel in Switzerland.
In addition, André Buchmann has been a member of the board of the Cragg Foundation since 2008. The Buchmann Galerie has not only represented Tony Cragg as a sculptor since 1983 but also exclusively represents the artist’s drawing archive.
