Buchmann Galerie is delighted to present a new solo exhibition by the renowned sculptor Wilhelm Mundt at the Brunhilde Moll Foundation in Düsseldorf.
His sculptural works, known as “Trashstones,” as lumps, whose form recalls erratic boulders. Since the late 1980s, he has created them from inorganic waste, binding it into a solid form, covering it with fibreglass, and, in some cases, finishing it with paint. The group forms the conceptual and formal anchor of his practice, to which he refers in installations, photographs, drawings, and video works. At its core, Mundt’s work explores questions surrounding production and invention.
The exhibition ZUFLUSSREGELUNG brings together works by the artist spanning several decades of his practice. In particular, the sculptures carefully establish a relationship with the exhibition spaces, while also connecting to their original function as studio spaces.
Wilhelm Mundt, born in Grevenbroich in 1959, studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Tony Cragg, Klaus Rinke, and Irmin Kamp. He was Professor of Sculpture at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden. His works are held in numerous public and private collections in Germany and abroad.
