Fiona Rae’s oeuvre is distinguished by a complex, powerfully expressive, and highly individual visual language. Floral patterns and cute little animals are countered with powerful, abstract brushstrokes. Expressionist gestures are found next to delicate, graphic ramifications or graphic forms. Fiona Rae integrates these different pictorial elements into her painting in order to expand the possibilities of abstraction and of painting in general.

The painting is a perfect example for Fiona Rae's interest in seemingly irreconcilable moments and aspects in painting. The artist states: "I am intrigued by the juxtaposition of high and low, of serious and comic, of familiar and esoteric, and what that might mean and suggest when found together in a painting or a title."
