Site specific installation at Ca’ Corniani, Triest, Italy

Through a control mechanism linked with Meteorage – European leader in lightning detection -, the lights of this work will increase in brightness for a few moments whenever a bolt of lightning strikes the territory of Italy.

Conceived as a means of inviting the viewer to take in the vast expanse of sky above the cultivated plain of Ca’ Corniani at a single glance, the work is writing in the landscape, a luminous structure and its own caption.

Site specific installation at Ca’ Corniani, Triest, Italy

A large inscription in light—whose letters reproduce Garutti's handwriting— has been installed in the fields on a metal supporting structure. Visible from close by and at a great distance from the roads that cross the area, it is a luminous sign spread out in the landscape.

Glass, enamel, iron frame

48½ (h) x 59 x 2¼ in

Each work in the series Orizzonte, begun in 1987, has an everlasting relationship with the name of its owner in the title of the work, and thus continues to write itself. “When I design a new horizon, I always imagine the straight line leaving my studio, entering the homes of collectors and joining the others to construct the ‚ideal‘ horizon of my life, the union of all those who love and support my work,“ says the artist. The sharp horizontal division into a white and a black surface, in which the surrounding space is reflected, creates an association of infinite space behind the line of the horizon.
