Buchmann Galerie Lugano is pleased to announce a new presentation of artworks focused on Wolfgang Laib (Metzingen, *1950).
Starting Saturday, December 16th, the gallery spaces will host a selection of Reishäuser, including a historic silver plate artwork exhibited at Galerie Beyeler, as well as a small beeswax sculpture and several works on paper.
The German artist's works fascinate with the fusion of Western minimalist artistic currents and spirituality supported by his interests in Eastern philosophy, aesthetics and religions.
The use of natural materials such as rice, pollen, and beeswax reinforces the spiritual dimension of his works: the simplicity expressed in the forms and colors bears witness to the trend toward the pursuit of essentiality.
For more than 30 years, Laib has been on a unique artistic path that amplifies materials and the intrinsic processes of nature.
Wolfgang Laib is considered one of the most internationally respected and admired German artists, awarded the Japanese Praemium Imperiale for sculpture in 2015. His works can be found in several public collections, including Centre Pompidou in Paris, MASI in Lugano, Kunsthaus in Zurich, Kunstmuseum in Chur, Museum of Modern Art in New York, Neue Pinakothek in Munich, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, Kunstmuseum in Stuttgart, Sprengel Museum in Hanover, and many others.

Buchmann Galerie Lugano è lieta di annunciare la nuova presentazione di opere dedicata a Wolfgang Laib (Metzingen, *1950).
A partire da sabato 16 dicembre gli spazi della galleria ospitano una selezione di Reishäuser, tra cui un’opera storica in lastra d’argento esposta alla Galerie Beyeler, oltre a una piccola scultura in cera d’api e ad alcune opere su carta.
I lavori dell’artista tedesco incantano per la fusione tra le correnti artistiche minimaliste occidentali e una spiritualità sostenuta dai suoi interessi per la filosofia, l'estetica e le religioni orientali.
L’utilizzo di materiali naturali quali riso, polline e cera d’api rafforza la dimensione spirituale dei suoi lavori: la semplicità espressa nelle forme e nei colori è testimone della tendenza alla ricerca dell’essenzialità.
Da oltre 30 anni, Laib ha intrapreso un percorso artistico unico che amplifica i materiali e i processi intrinseci della natura.
Wolfgang Laib è considerato uno degli artisti tedeschi più rispettati e ammirati a livello internazionale, insignito nel 2015 in Giappone del Praemium Imperiale per la scultura. Sue opere sono presenti in numerose collezioni pubbliche, tra cui il Centre Pompidou di Parigi, il MASI di Lugano, il Kunsthaus di Zurigo, il Kunstmuseum di Coira, il Museum of Modern Art di New York, la Neue Pinakothek di Monaco di Baviera, l'Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden di Washington, il Kunstmuseum di Stoccarda, lo Sprengel Museum di Hannover e molti altri.
