Martin Disler
The exhibition space Buchmann Lugano presents Saturday April 13 starting from 5 pm the solo show by the Swiss artist Martin Disler (1949-1996). The gallery, since 2012 curates the Estate of Disler and presents on this occasion a selection of works on paper and pottery.
Born in 1949 in Seewen, he began to exhibit in Switzerland and abroad since the 1970s. His first solo show at the Kunsthalle Basel in 1980 entitled Invasion durch eine falsche Sprache, marks a turning point in the artist's career. The same year he took part at the Venice Art Biennale, in 1982 at Documenta 7 in Kassel and in 1984 in a group exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York gaining popularity internationally.
Martin Disler, self-taught artist, driven by an incessant and frenetic creativity, has investigated themes such as death and life, frequently represented in an almost obsessive way. A gestural painting, sometimes impulsive, others more controlled and soft, characterizes his entire work.
He lived in New York, Amsterdam, Milan, Zurich, Lugano and Les Planchettes. Disappeared at only 47 years old, he leaves behind a rich artistic production including: sculptures, paintings, drawings, prints, poems and writings, preserved today in his archive in Basel.
Currently, Die Umgebung der Liebe created in 1981 for the Stuttgarter Kunstverein, and acquired in 2006 by the Gottfried Keller Stiftung, is now exhibited for the first time in its entirety at the Bündner Kunstmuseum in Chur (until 26 May 2019).
Tony Cragg's Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden has recently opened a Disler’s exhibition of bronze sculptures by the Häutung und Tanz group, made in 1991/92 in the Besso atelier at that time and merged into the sub-foundries, (until 16 June 2019).

Lo spazio espositivo Buchmann Lugano presenta sabato 13 aprile a partire dalle ore 17.00 le opere dell’artista svizzero Martin Disler (1949-1996). La galleria, che dal 2013 cura il lascito di Disler, presenta una selezione di lavori su carta e opere in terracotta.
Nato nel 1949 a Seewen, inizia ad esporre in Svizzera e all’estero a partire dagli anni ’70. La sua prima mostra personale presso la Kunsthalle di Basilea nel 1980 intitolata Invasion durch eine falsche Sprache, segna un punto di svolta nella carriera dell’artista. Lo stesso anno partecipa alla Biennale d’arte di Venezia, nel 1982 a documenta 7 a Kassel e nel 1984 ad una mostra collettiva presso il Museum of Modern Art di New York ottenendo popolarità a livello internazionale.
Martin Disler, artista auto-didatta, spinto da un’incessante e frenetica creatività ha indagato tematiche quali la morte e la vita, rappresentate di frequente in maniera quasi ossessiva. Una pittura di matrice gestuale, talvolta impulsiva, altre più controllata e morbida, caratterizza il suo intero lavoro.
Ha vissuto a New York, Amsterdam, Milano, Zurigo, Lugano e Les Planchettes. Scomparso a soli 47 anni, lascia alle sue spalle una ricca produzione artistica comprendente: sculture, dipinti, disegni, stampe, poesie e scritti, conservati oggi nel suo archivio a Basilea.
Attualmente, Die Umgebung der Liebe realizzata nel 1981 per il Stuttgarter Kunstverein, e acquisita nel 2006 dalla Gottfried Keller Stiftung, è esposta ora per la prima volta nella sua totalità presso il Bündner Kunstmuseum di Coira (fino al 26 maggio 2019).
Lo Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden di Tony Cragg ha da poco inaugurato una mostra delle sculture in bronzo dal gruppo Häutung und Tanz, realizzate nel 1991/92 nell’allora atelier di Besso e fuse nelle fonderie del sottoceneri, (fino al 16 giugno 2019).
