Die Galerie Buchmann Lugano präsentiert am Freitag, 1. Dezember ab 17 Uhr die Ausstellung Portugal al cubo #729 des Künstlers Alex Dorici (Lugano, *1979).

 

Der Titel der Ausstellung gibt bereits einige nützliche Hinweise, wie man sich nicht nur den ausgestellten Werken, sondern auch der Art und Weise nähern kann, wie Alex Dorici seine Arbeit konzipiert. Portugal spielt auf die Heimat seiner Mutter an. Das Wort cubo dagegen verweist darauf, dass in diesen wie in all seinen Werken der Kubus als emblematische geometrische Figur wiederkehrt. 729 ist die exakte Zahl der Azulejos, also jener Keramikfliesen, aus denen die großformatige Arbeit (mit dem Titel
Portugal al cubo #729 und den Massen 390 x 390 cm) besteht, die er zu diesem Anlass geschaffen hat und die den Mittelpunkt der Ausstellung bildet. Neben dem Hauptwerk versammelt die Ausstellung weitere 21 Werke mit Azulejos, die jeweils 14 x 14 cm gross sind: 12 der Werke bestehen dabei aus 9 Azulejos und 9 Werke aus 4 Azulejos.

 

Aber warum Azulejos? Weil diese nicht sehr dicken, glasierten und verzierten Keramikfliesen ein typisches Ornament der portugiesischen und spanischen Architektur sind. Der Künstler verwendet die quadratischen, handbemalten und gebrannten Fliesen in der klassischen Grösse 14 x 14 cm. Mit diesem konkreten, historischen Manufakt nimmt Alex Dorici einen Teil seiner Biographie auf und fügt sich gleichzeitig in eine grosse künstlerische Tradition ein. Das portugiesische Wort Azulejo geht auf das arabische Al-zuleique zurück: es bezeichnet den „kleinen, glatt polierten Stein“, der bereits im Mittelalter verwendet wurde. Die Azulejos gefielen den portugiesischen Herrschern ausserordentlich gut, so dass dieser Art von Dekoration ab dem 15. Jahrhundert eine so bedeutende Rolle in der Architektur und der Kunst zukam wie in keinem anderen europäischen Land.

 

Die Ausstellung bei Buchmann Lugano konzentriert sich zum ersten Mal ausschliesslich auf dieses besondere Ausdrucksmittel, womit Alex Dorici das tragende Konzept seines gesamten Werks (Zeichnungen, Projekte, Gemälde, Installationen, Strukturen, etc) gestaltet, nämlich das Verhältnis zum Raum.

Lo spazio espositivo Buchmann Lugano presenta venerdì 1 dicembre a partire dalle ore 17.00 la mostra intitolata “Portugal al cubo #729” dell’artista Alex Dorici (Lugano, *1979).

 

Il titolo della mostra racchiude alcune indicazioni utili ad avvicinare non solo le opere esposte, ma il modo in cui Alex Dorici concepisce il suo lavoro. Portugal allude alla sua patria materna, il Portogallo. Il cubo al fatto che in queste, come in tutte le sue opere, ricorre la figura geometrica, emblematizzata appunto dal cubo. 729 è il numero esatto delle azulejos, le piastrelle utilizzate per l’opera di grandi dimensioni (che infatti si intitola Portugal al cubo #729 e misura 390 x 390 cm) realizzata per l’occasione e che costituisce il fulcro dell’esposizione. Oltre all’opera principale, la mostra riunisce altre 21 composizioni realizzate con azulejos sempre di 14 x 14 cm: 12 sono formate da 9 azulejos e 9 da 4.

 

Ma perché l’azulejo? Per il fatto che questa piastrella di ceramica non molto spessa e con una superficie smaltata e decorata è un tipico ornamento dell'architettura portoghese e spagnola. A forma quadrata, dipinta a mano e cotta al forno, viene impiegata dall’artista nella tipica dimensione di 14 x 14 cm. Attraverso questo preciso, storico manufatto Alex Dorici recupera parte della propria biografia inserendosi in una grande tradizione artistica. Al-zuleique è la parola araba che ha dato origine a quella portoghese di azulejo per indicare la "piccola pietra liscia e levigata" che usavano nel medioevo. L’impiego degli azulejos piacque molto ai sovrani portoghesi e questo tipo di decorazione finì per svolgere un ruolo importante, senza eguali negli altri paesi europei, nell’architettura e nelle arti a partire dal XV secolo.

 

L’insieme dell’esposizione da Buchmann Lugano si concentra, per la prima volta in modo esclusivo, sulla scelta di questo particolare mezzo espressivo attraverso il quale Alex Dorici configura il concetto portante di tutta la sua opera (disegni, progetti, dipinti, installazioni, strutture ecc.), ossia il rapporto con lo spazio.

Alex Dorici

Born in 1979 in Lugano from an Italo-Portuguese family. He studied at the artistic high school G. Terragni, Como, at the SUPSI, Lugano, and the Accademia Aldo Galli, Como where in 2005 he obtained his degree in etching and painting. He worked for 5 years in Paris. He lives and works in Lugano.
