Buchmann Lugano
Press release

On the 18th of April 2013 at 4pm, at via della Posta 2,  “Buchmann Lugano” opens a new space for contemporary international art, located right in the heart of the city.

This space has been conceived as a city-centre presence for the Buchmann Gallery of Agra (Collina d’Oro), and which has for many years displayed works by internationally renowned artists, and taken part in all the principal contemporary art fairs (Art Basel, Miami Beach, and FIAC Paris among others).

What will make this exhibition space different, is its aim to display only a single work for a period of six weeks, with the work of different artists being exhibited successively. The exhibited work will always be of outstanding interest, and occasionally connected to an exhibition taking place in Agra.

The choice of presenting single works in this way is born out of the desire to immerse the visitor in the energy of the work’s uniqueness, thereby arousing their interest in wanting to know more.

The inaugural exhibition at “Buchmann Lugano” will show the internationally renowned Ticinese artist Felice Varini, with a work especially conceived for this occasion and created “in situ”. This new piece will be revealed, with the artist present, at the formal opening of the exhibition space.

The choice of Felice Varini is based on the exceptional originality of his works, which enrich the city with  the incredible perspective of his pictorial geometries.

Our own attraction to the space itself began whilst strolling under the via della Posta portici, which reminded us of  Milan’s “Galleria”. While we don’t know for sure whether it was the space choosing us, or us choosing the space, we do know that it is going to be an opportunity to further enliven a district of the city where art is already in the air.

This is how a new place of contact between art-works, artists, citizens and art enthusiasts will be born.

Open to the public: from Tuesday to Saturday, from 1pm to 6pm or on appointment

Comunicato stampa

Questo nuovo lavoro sarà inaugurato in presenza dell’artista all’apertura dello spazio.
